Reading #2 Questions

1. In the reading, Walter Benjamin quotes a Rudolf Arnheim involving how actors can be seen as stage props and just used for their characteristics. With that idea in mind: "Would your favorite movie still be your favorite movie if the actors were all replaced? EVERYTHING about the movie would be the same, the only thing changing are the actors.

2. Benjamin makes a comparison between the painter and the camera man. Should the cameraman be considered an "artist" and on what grounds?

Audio time!!

I had some fun with this one!! I liked being able to add some sound to the animation. It was rewarding to see how well the sounds complimented the video.

MAGICAL ANIMATION!!! WHOOOOOH!!

I learned how to animate this at 11:00pm last night. Once I got the hang of After effects I had a lot of fun exploring and animating in the dark!! I stared at my diptych for awhile and start piecing together what I wanted to move when and it all kind of just fell into place. For the previous experience that I have had with after effects I am very pleased with how this turned out.

Animation Questions!!

 1. Would the animation be as powerful if it wasn't so simple? If the environments and characters were created with more detail would it cause the same amount of "feels"?

2. If the perspective were to be changed, say everything was in first person, would it have the same impact?

Introspection is a term used to look inside of ones' self. The way we approached the project was with the idea of actually going inside ones' self and what that would look like. This proved to be extremely difficult to portray due to the nature of the project and we couldn't produce results that either of us enjoyed. So we set off on another idea: the idea of bringing what is inside, out. Looking inside ones self becomes a lot easier when everything on the inside is out on the table. With this we wanted to use things that aren't normally expressed on the outside. Underlying conflicts and ideas are constantly at war within a persons mind and we wanted to bring that turmoil out.  This was our idea and we ran with it. This also allowed both of us enough creative freedom to produce two distinct works with the same 25 images.
